3 years after server closure, what have you been up to?
« on: November 27, 2016, 05:13:46 AM »
I made this thread a few days ago but deleted it for some reason.. Moving on, the server closed just over 3 years ago, the forums remained active and a few people still lurked around since then. The question has already been asked in the subject. What have you been up to in the last 3 years since server closure? I consider you guys my internet family as some of you guys are still here, most of you know what I have been up to.

I'll start this off. In my old thread I went all in and explained a little too much so I'll do the TL;DR now and go more in depth after.

- Left college with second highest qualification in ICT, got accepted into University

- Barely studied in university, helped my friends all the way through by doing half their shit.

- Started working out with best mate since I've known when I was 3, lived with him the last 2 and a half years, second year started using steroids which fuck you up emotionally then got kicked out after I had gotten waaay too close as I was considered the "favorite". Also, had the same part time job as a sales assistant

- Graduated University with a high bachelors degree (2:1) in computer science this year, right after that started to repair that broken friendship by becoming a full time pothead, started living with him and family again after 3 months lol.

The last 3 weeks have been quite nostalgic, the only difference is no RRP. Otherwise, it's like I've been living my teen-hood again. Think about it, this generation of gaming, what titles are coming out? Remasters. The one that really brought my attention was Call of Duty 4. It then reminded me of what I used to do, editing. So I bought the fucking game and made my own edit that was promised since 2012:

Shit I didn't really expect to recreate this thread but I did it anyway. Now it's your turn.

Curious what's the difference in college and university? In US the terms are interchangeable. I graduated high school in 2015, went a full year afterwards without doing anything, then started college in August of this year (~2 weeks left of my first semester, it's been decent so far).

Sammy I'm jealous of your crops! And is that cod4 footage from the OG or the remastered? I can't tell because I haven't played the new one but the editing is really good, same goes for your Photoshop work  :).

The last 3 weeks have been quite nostalgic, the only difference is no RRP.

Definitely same and this thread didn't do nothing but reiterate that lol. And speaking of this generation's games, I cannot wait for RDR2! And I wonder if DayZ has gotten any less glitchy/playable. Lol I doubt it. But this being the only online community I was ever really a part of does create a connection to this place that like everyone else here I won't ever forget. And certainly miss being able to say that I have friends in all different parts of the world, not just cause there's no one to play online with but also because you're all hilarious  ;D

The difference here in the UK is that college is referred as high school and university is what you would call college in the states. I remember the server closing when I graduated "high school" which was in 2013. The cod4 footage is from remaster, it plays exactly like the original with a few facelifts in the game.

Wasn't expecting a tower of text but definitely sticks to the purpose of this thread, like you yourself didn't expect to write that much but if you look back at what has been going on since the closure of the server, I'm sure everyone has their own unique story. Just makes you think, shit things have really changed and time flew by so quick.

There's a few things I forgot to mention in my story, got my licence and the first day of being insured on my dads Honda Civic Mk8 some wanker tore the wing mirror off and my supposed "second mother" had to replace it, think this is when my best friend started becoming a bit jealous because his mum paid for it lol. After that shit went downhill months later he let me drive his mums Civic Type R (EP3) because it was Sunday and all these pistonheads meet up someplace in Enfield. He took his R34 GTT and on the way back we had some epic race with some VW Golf all the way from Tottenham to fucking Holloway near the Emirates stadium, at one point all three of us got flashed at a speed camera but nothing came in the mail thankfully (3 cars must've confused it) But the worst part of that day, on the way back.. I fucking crashed into my mates Skyline with his mums car.. LMAO, luckily got it repaired before she came back from holiday but her mate saw the fucking car being worked on in the garage and got busted out but it was all cool anyway lol.

ffs didn't mean to write that much, this is why I deleted the thread before but oh well ::)

Good old RRP, a thread about what people have been up to and the most common response thusfar is drugs :D I guess that makes sense, RRP always seemed like a drug to me, I was always addicted to being online (and clearly so were so many others) even when there was nobody else around.

My story is a little dull I guess. I graduated university with the highest possible degree qualification, got a good job for a small company which I've now been at for over 3 years, am still dating the same girl who I'm looking at buying a house with at the moment, and have just finished writing my third novel. No drugs, no car crashes (still running the same car for that matter), but plenty of time spent holidaying in Europe, Australia & the USA, so that's something :).

Not an awful lot tbh. Went to Queen's in Belfast and dropped out in first year because I wasn't enjoying my course or Belfast much tbh. Now in 2nd year of Computing @ Dundee Uni. Dunno what else to say really, won't continue the popular theme in this thread hahaha

Graduated univeristy, moved to the UK. I had spent one year working my ass off in a warehouse and then they took me in to their offices where I work as a transport admin/planner. Enjoying myself really. Love the country, live with my girlfriend, the job's decent. All good :)

Well, I'm still a police officer but 2 years ago, i graduated to the next rank. I have a decent pay even if i think it's shitty compared to the risks...
Anyway, I have a girlfriend, and she's going to live with me.
We found an appartment. Actually, everything is fine!

Excellent :) Where abouts in the UK are you? Major props for coming over and grafting your way into the system.

Great news Baker! Often thought of you during certain times of disruption (especially in Paris). Hope you're as safe as you can be out there.

I haven't really been doing anything apart from going out every weekend cause.. Why the hell not.

Still coding, at the moment I'm a head admin & developer on a pretty popular server, that's going well.

Real life shit, got my driving test on the 22nd of December, waiting on hearing about a full time job as a removal man, should be fun.

My life's pretty boring at the moment.
hai this is steve from aldo costa i want anyone to let redgie back please :D

Setzer, you plan living in the UK permanently? If you really like it here then I hope you stay because after the whole brexit mess the chances are fucked up. The Home Office just said it could take 47 years to process permanent residency over here :(
https://www.theguardian.com/politics/2016/dec/01/brexit-eu-citizens-living-britain-risk-deportation-3-million-campaign-european-union

Luis your driving test is on my birthday, why isit so close to Christmas? What time did you book your appointment for, most people pass around 11-1pm. Observers usually have like a target, they need to pass only a certain amount of people everyday so be careful, they may trick you so you can just fail. My driving instructor told me this, funny how he's also my best mates dad lol, the guy started teaching me some reckless shit after I passed on first try. I was so close to failing though, there were two mini roundabouts and some dickhead truck driver didn't have the right of way whereas I did, if I proceeded to continue driving straight across the roundabout, that would have been an automatic fail because I didn't see the hazard and didn't do anything about it. Luckily I just slammed on the brakes without stalling, my mates dad thought the instructor performed the emergency brake, meaning he thought I failed just because of that lol.

Also you better hope it's not icy because the weather is fucking cold as shit these days, apparently some homeless dude died this morning because he literally froze to death. rip. Forgot to mention that if you plan to drive uninsured, only drive after 11pm, most patrols usually end their shifts after that time (at least here in London). But don't drive uninsured anyway, I was paying 480 a month for my damn insurance and got sick of it, the way I was driving police couldn't care less so I cancelled it and have been driving uninsured for the last 2 months, sure I shit myself when they're following me but they have no reason to pull you over unless you drive like a spastic. Infact, the only time I got pulled over is when I was outside my fucking car (quite an interesting long story to tell, i'll save it). I don't drive as often anymore though because the risks aren't really that worth it, so I'm planning to get an Yamaha WR125 (RL Sanchez <3) as the insurance quote for that is only 600 a year, cheaper but more likely to die falling off the thing rather than driving uninsured where if I crash I'm more likely to survive.

I don't fear of being deported, in my opinion the chances of that happening are very low. Just looking at my comapny, if all of us immigrants lost the right to work, it would die of massive staff shortage. Around the warehouse, British people are outnumbered at least 5:1, could be even higher, I've never really done much research. My office only has 1 British person in the team and we're a team of 11.

Obviously, these people are not irreplaceble, I'm not either. However, imagine the chaos getting rid of us would cause. Imagine what would happen to your economy. And it's not just simple warehouse/factory roles we do. I reckon there's at least 3 people in middle management, twice as much in lower managment and countless specialists across all the departments.

If I have to go, I'll go. I didn't come here for the money, I'll be just alright back in Poland as well. Don't think that's going to happen though.

BTW, 480 a month to insure a Honda Civic? What the hell? I paid 1050 for mine for the whole year!
